In September of 2016 Disney Interactive announced that the Steam version of Disney Infinity 2.0 would need to be replaced in order to accommodate the changes in online features. On the same day, the Community features for all versions of the game were retired and no new user-generated “Toy Boxes” were made available. By September 30th, the game was removed from availability through its dedicated PC client and on iOS and Android devices. On July 29th, 2016 Disney Interactive announced a timeline for the end of Disney Infinity. The change in leadership could also have led to the decision to put an end to Disney Infinity along with most other Disney-produced games. Previous to this, Disney Interactive was merged into ‘Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media’ in mid-2015. This included closing the development studio Avalanche Software. The exact date is uncertain but it could have been as early as September 30th, 2016 when the dedicated PC, iOS and Android versions of the game were delisted or as late as March 3rd, 2017 when the series’ Online and Community features were shut down.
